INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION

A meeting of tho General Committee of the Wellington Industrial Association was hold last night, Mr. P. J. Evans presiding. Referring to the offer of Messrs. Packer and Sons to manufacture artificial limbs for maimed soldiers at "bcdrock prices," a letter was received from t)ie'Defence Minister to say that as "other arrangements" had been made, 110 was unable to accept Messrs. Packer's. offer. General dissatisfaction was expressed. with the Minister's re-

ly, especially as it was not cl/ar hetlier the "other arrangements" aplied' to other Now Zealand firms. It

was decided to write to the Minister to urge the advisability of having theso articles, uufortunately necessary for some of our soldiers, manufactured in New Zealand. t . The question of .whether a Board of Industries for Wellington, on the model, of the Canterbury body recently set up, should be set up in AVellington. to foster secondary local industries, was discussed. Tho chairman was of opinion that there was little reason why the work for which tho Canterbury® Board was set up should not be done by tho Wellington Industrial Asfjociation, as it had been done on occasions for many years past. The Industrial Association might, lie thought, extend its activities a little, and achieve the same object; This view- seemed to be the general one, and it was decided to make further inquiries as to the scope and objects of the Canterbury Board before

the association should come to a conclusion on the subject.

It was decided, in terms of a request received, to increase by 60 per cent, the subscription of £3 3s. due from tho In-

dustrial Association to tho Employers' Association. A circular was received from tlio Employers' Association maiv-

ing a levy on all subscribers of 50 per cent, of their subscription. , ,
