WORKERS' TRAM TICKETS
* — : —-. PROTEST BY DRAPERS' UNION. »' The secretary of the Wellington Soft Goods Employees' Union (Mr. A. W. Croskery) has, on behalf of his union, written to the Mayor entering an emphatic protest against tho proposed amendment, to the Order-in-Council, which-, provides for workers' concession tickets-on tho tram-cars, also against the proposed concession tickets, for tka following reasons:— . "(1) The proposed concessions, will mean that those who at present travel on the workers' ticket will be'penalised to the extent of id. per week; (2) the workers are .the most regular users of the trams; (3} a workers' ticket is for use during day and week of issue only, and assures'a roturn trip in each case, whereas, concessions suggested by your engineer would not encourage travelling I both ways; (4) the proposed concessional tickets'-will .be open-.to all pleasure seekers during all hours of the day, and are transferable, which is given at tlie I expense of the present users of work* I ers' tickets; (5) the concession which I this _ union asked for would, in ■ our opinion, have cost approximately 'the same as the % ;proposal of your council; (6) it has to be noted that your gineer is not sure that the concession. \ which yon propose \viU he a financial success, for'the reason that, he asks j that a clause be - inserted permitting the council to revert to the present sysjtem if necessary." I | _ The Wellington Storeman's Union, at I its last meeting, adopted a resolution I protesting against the proposed conces- I sion and asking that the present workers' concession tickets be extended to 9 o'clock.
