LATEST APPOINTMENTS

Tho Twelfth Infantry Reinforcements, in charge of tho Chief Infantry Instructor, Lieutenant-Colonel Macdonald, engaged in night operations" at Mangaroa on Friday night. 'J'lieso troops marched over tho Rimutaka Hill on Thursday and bivouacked at Kaitokc that night. On Friday morning they marched to Upper Hutt and lunched at Maidstone Park, proceeding to bivouacs -at Mangaroa and Wallacovillo during the afternoon. A) fi, C, and D Companies were the defending force, and E, F, G, and 11 Companies \voro' the attackers. During tlio night the latter force marched to a position nearer Mangaroa and formed on out-, post line in readiness to attack. At ton minutes to six, this attack was launched, and the sound of heavy rifle fire could be heard for some lime by residents of Upper Hutt. Just before the order to cease fire was sounded a goods train emerged from Mangaroa tunnel and passed through" the area in which the battle was raging, the train, of course, being treated as strictly-neu-tral. Like the Eleventh, the Twelfth experienced drizzling and wet weather in their bivouacs and operations, but were cheerful nevertheless. They reached Trentham camp on Saturday forenoon. , Temporary Appointments, v Captain 11. Hunter, N.Z.M.C, has reported at Featherston Camp for duty. . Mulhane, 16th M.R., to be Orderly Boom c : erk; Lce.-Corpl. W. C. Harrington, N.Z.V.C., to be corporal; Pto. \t. 0. Macklow, N.Z.V.0., to be corporal dispenser; Pte. D. Shea, N.Z.V.C., to be lance-corporal; Pte. Beck, Headquarters Camp Commandant's Office, to be corporal; Pte. Durrad, Headquarters Camp Commandant's Office, to be corporal. The following temporary appointments are approved by the Camp Commandant at Trentham:— Headquarters Staff (Commandant's Office)— Corpl. C. Watts, to be sergeant ; Corpl. W. L. Ory, to be sergeant.
