ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE

IDLE RUMOURS DISPELLED ' CLEAR DECLARATIONS BY MINISTERIAL By Telegraph-Press Afisodatton-OopyrlgM Tokio, April 14. A discussion has been running, in certain newspapers concerning. the value and durability of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. Some correspondents in the Japanese Press in China complain of tho unfriendliness of the British residents in China. Baron Ishii (Minister for Foreign Affairs), in an interview, said it was superfluous to make protestations of Japan's loyalty to the Allies. Real Japan resents the bare insinuation of disloyalty towards a friend in trouble. Discussion over the conditions of treaties was permissible during times of peace, but not when an Ally was engaging a relentless enemy. Japan was bound to England by close bonds, mutual friendship, and mutual gratitude, despite the enemy's efforts to sow discord. Tho war was going to bring the world closer \ ; Baron Takahaski (Leader of the Opposition) was also interviewed. He said the loyalty of Japan to the AngloJapanese Alliance is fixed as a great national principle. A change in Cabinet would not alter, the foreign policy a breadth. ■ t M. Nakano (President of tho Tokio Chamber of Commerce) says that the competition of China must not be allowed to endanger' Anglo-Japanese political relations.
