ANZAC DAY
In connection with tho Anzac Day arrangements, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. ivulte) has been advised tTiat the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. W. F. Massey) will attend the memorial service in the afternoon of April 25, at the Town 'Hall, and will speak at the evening meeting. The Minister of Defence (the | Hon. Jas. Allen) will visit the Taranaki ; district late next wceky but' will return on Tuesday evening to attend the patriotic meeting at night. _ Sir Joseph Ward is not yet sure of his movements at Easter, and will advise the Mayor definitely later. PROGRAMME IN SYDNEY. Mr. Hugh M'lntosh, vice-president of 'the Sydney Returned Soldiers' AssociaI tion, indicated in Melbourne the other day how Sydney intended celebrating l"Anzac"D ay. He said tliey were going to havo a great churcli parade, and it was estimated that 150,000 people would attend at tho various churches to show their reverence for the dead. Tho Lord Mayor of Sydney would givo a luncheon to 3000 returned men. The men themselves hoped to raise £100,000, said the Government had promised to subsidise tho fund pound for pound. Tho proceeds would go to a great club for tho returned men and a memorial hall. At night Sydney was to be brilliantly illuminated. Although it was fully rccog- [ nised that it was no 'day for festivity, tho illuminations would servo the purpose of showing the new recruits. As i a fitting finale to a great day fittingly celebrated, tho returned soldiers had I pledged themselves to bring ill at least one recruit apiece.
