WELCOME TO RETURNED SOLDIERS

On Thursday night the Parish Hall at Johnsonville was filled to overflowing on the occasion of a welcome social given by tho local Patriotic Society w tho men of tho district .who have returned from the front. Fiv'o JohnsonviUe men Imvo como back, and three of them —Sergeants Offard and Pickin and Private Lawrence—were present, the other two —Sergeant Cook and Private Sioorc—being unfortunately too ill to attend. An address of welcome was delivered hy Mr. F- T. Mobro, who expressed tiic people's admiration of tho gallant deods performed on Gallipoli, and at me same tune called upon all the others in the district able to go to come forward and do their share as the returnca awn liad done. • An expression of regret by Captain Sim son at not being able to be' present was read by tho chairman of tho Miciety (llev. I l '. H.' Petrie), who also in a short spcech'cohoed the sentiments expressed by Mr. Moore, and stated that as a memb'er of tho Recruiting Committee ho was proud to'be, in a position to say that in Johnsonville few, if any,'shirkers were to be'found. The proceedings of the evening were much enlivened by . the patriotic selections played by the Johnsonville Brass. Band, while the following also contributed to tho musical programme:—Mesdames Cook'and Moore, -Misses lAnyon and Hallj and Messrs: Pritchard and Pickin (piano), Misses Anyon and D. l'ritohard (violin), Mrs. D. Steele (recitation), Mrs. G. Pattle, andiMessrs. Moore, Pritchard, and Reader (songs). •The refreshments arrangements 'were admirably carried out by a. large committee of ladiao.
