DISCHARGED PRISONERS' SOCIETY

A meeting of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society was held in tho Supremo Court Chambers on Tuesday. Present : Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justioe), Messrs. V. R. S. Meredith, T. S. Lambert, E. Arnold, and B. Cummings (secretary). The report of the work that had been accomplished during December, January, February, and March showed that eeveral, ca3es of deep interest had been dealt with. •, '• The women prisoners in gaol, to the number of 33, were entertained at Christmas, permission having been obtained from the Minister of Justice. Musical items were tendered by Madam and Mr. Vandella, and recitations by Mrs. Lewis, and 'then the distribution of cakes and fruit, which made it an occasion to be remembered as a gleam of liberty, which they enjoyed to the full, and one of their number gave exi prcssion to the pleasure they had derived, and heartily thanked tile society and Mr. Arnold for the kindly-.thought pf them at this season. The society helped 71 male prisoners in various ways, also 12 fctnalo prisoners. Tho rovenue of the society amounted to £159 9s. 9d., and the expenditure to i£4s Os. 6d. The society tenders its thanks to all those who have contributed to tho funds and to the T. G. Macartliy Trust for ?, magnificent donation.
