RAILWAY PRIVILEGES

FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS.

According to "general orders,".a.three-' weeks railway, pass will be issued to all returned discharged soldiers if they make application for- same, provided that they have not already | received this , privilege eince, their return from Egypt. Should any application for these tickets be made to any Defence 'Office thev must be immediately forwarded to the Director of Base Records, Wellington ; and the necessary railway pass, permit to wear uniform, and receipt to be signed by the ex-sol-dier before tlie pass is handed over will be promptly forwarded to the Defence Office, where the applicant desires ,to call for Ms pass. . Applicants must be informed that they may select any period of three weeks, provided such period expires prior to April 3(1 next (which date has been selected in order to give men who have returned to work the benefit of using this privilege during the Easter holidays), and that they must wear their, uniforms when travelling on the trains, as if in mufti the guards will not ifcept tho passes. Special permission for uniform to' be worn has been granted, and each exsoldier will be issued with a certificate, which ' must always bo- carried by him when in uniform. It will be seen' from the receipt form to be signed by the soldier that he agrees to. return the pass on demand to any military officer, noncommissioned officer, or military policeman, if it is considered that tlie soldier is behaving in a manner unbecoming a soldier. This railway pass and certificate to wear uniform will be,demanded and returned to the Base Rocords Office, Wellington. whenever tho officer in charge of "the Defence Office where tho misbehaviour is reported considers it advisable. If this officer considers 1 the privileges have been withdrawn wihout good reason, he may. return the, pass; to the latter for. the, whole or a portion of the unexpired period of such privilege.
