MR. HUGHES TO GO TO PARIS

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr. Asquftli (the Prime Minister) stated that Mr. Bonar Law (Secretary of State for the Colonies) had forwarded a request that Mr. Hughes '(the Prime Minister of Australia) should go to Paris as one of the representatives of the Imperial Government. He (Mr. Asquith) hoped that he would be able to accept. * ' Mr. Philip Snowden (Socialist),asked whether Mr. Hughes would go as the representative of the .Australian de-< mocracy, because, he pointed out, every Labour paper in Australia had repudiated his (Mr. Hughes's) attitude. Mr. Asquith .replied: "He would go as a representative of the Imperial ( Government." Mr. Hughes, interviewed on the subject, stated that ho had accepted the offer.
