YACHTING
A CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The Port Nicholson Yacht Club held a handicap race on Saturday afternoon for first-olass yachts for a trophy presented by Mr. E. P. Bucholz. The result of this race decided the winner of the championship of the club for thu season. There was a very heavy southwester with a big sea runmrifj in tho. harbour,' and only three boats faced tho starter—Mr. Buchoh's Wairere 11, 6cr.; Mr. Duncan's Viola, 9 minutes;. aiuUMr. G. -M'Lean's lolauthe, 18 minutes. The boats, which were closely reefed, got away to a good start. On the lead to Jerningham buoy tho Wairere took first place, followed by lolanthe, which passed Viola. At • the Korokoro buoy Wairere was first round the Viola was a minute ahead of lolantho. The plug to windward tested the gear, and the Viola had several mishaps, carrying away a jib, ripping her mainsail, and losing the foreatay. Wairere eventually came home a winner 17 minutes 15 seconds ahead of lolanthe, the Viola withdrawing from tho contest. Mr. Bucholz therefore wins tho championship and. his own trophy.
