THE PRESENT SYSTEM OF RECRUITING.
Sir,—May I beg for space to bring before jour readers a few seriois thoughts with regard to the present system of recruiting. Have our representatives in Parliament realised the sad and dangerous position of' many women whose husbands or only sons have responded to the call of duty? That danger proceeds from the shirker, who now, owing to the enlistment of true men, can monopolise their employments, and also insult and bully their unprotected dependents. This' is no exaggeration; instances are frequent. Can your readers suggest any remedy? It is a consolation that the police are still left. Women need not 'fear to ask their aid.—l am, etc., .A SOLDIER'S MOTHER,
