" The High - Commissioner reports:— ■ x London, April 6, 7.35 p.m. There was an air raid last night on the north-eastern counties, apparently carried out by three Zeppelins. The iirst made an attack about 9.10 p.m., and was driven off by anti-aircrafij, guns, after dropping five bombs, which caused no damage or casualties. Numerous observers state that this Zeppelin was struck by gunfire. The second raider made its appearance in another locality at 10.15 p.m.. No bombs were dropped. . Another raider delivered an. attack on a third locality. Several bombs were dropped, but only slight material damage was caused! The total number of bombs dropped was 24 explosive and 24 incendiary. The casualties reported are: —Killed, 1 child; injured, 2 men, ■ 1 woman, 5 children. No military damage was done. A WARM RECEPTION. By Tel eg rap h—Pre a 8 'Association—Copyright London, April 6. 'In a dear sky last night the searchlights soon located the Zeppelin; Heavy gunfire followed immediately, and apparently with good aim. The Zeppe-.. Jin vainly endeavoured to elude the searchlights, and departed eastward. The visit only lasted ten minutes. A few bombs fell on the' outskirts of, a town. A CERMAN REPORT. (Reo;;' April 7, 8.40 p.m.) London, April 6. The German accounts of the Zeppelin raid of April 3 claims that the airships bombed the fortifications near Great Yarmouth. "The airships returned safely." , RAID THAT FAILED TO ' ISE. ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) (Reo. April 7, 5.5 p.m.) ' London, April 6. Reports from Paris state that the ruggestion has v ßeen made that the Zeppelins which raided Britain were specially inflated to raid Paris during the Allies' Conference, but- were prevented from crossing the French lines. They were then diverted to Britain. LORD DERBYKESIGNS FROM • AIR COMMITTEE London, April 6. The "Evening Standard" says that Lord Derby has resigned from the Air Committee, on the ground that- recruiting prevents him from giving adequate' attention to the duties. It is also stated that Lord Derby considers the committee's. powers too limited.
