ARE RECRUITS WANTED.

Sir, —I see by jour valuable paper to-day that there is a great shortage in the Infantry of present Reinforcements. If so, please give me an explanation of the following facts:— Some months ago a young man of Feilding, who ■ had passed' his medical test, tried to get away in the Ambulance, but owin;; to so many enlisting in same, of course had to take his chance. .Now, a couple of mouths ago ho inquired at the Palmerston North Recruiting Office, and was told he could gc in with the April 4 draft. A week before lie gave tie firm the usual notiofy and on April 1 ho gets a polite official notice to say he was not required. His position being taken as far as ho kue,w, and as iie had received a send-off and presentation, he decided to proceed direct to Wellington and Buckle Street, and try there, but, alas, he tried both Infantry and Ambulance, and, along with others, who had also given up.their billets, was turned down, i The very next day there is a cry in your paper for more men. I Now, I would like to know when this , dillj'-dalljin'g with the men is going to ] cease, and the public are put on a firm ' ! footing as regards recruiting. A little i enlightenment of- the true facts would be very acceptable to the general public as woil as beneficial to the employers , of labour.—l am etc., < PUZZLED. Feilding. [We can only assume thiit our correspondent has been misinformed, or ■ has misunderstood the facts of the case j he quotes. The Defence authorities are anxious to enlist all eligible men for the Infantry. Tf the would-be recruit is of ago and has passed tho medical test ho will have no difficulty in getting into camp at once as a member of the Infantry. Major Corrigan, wo have | no doubt, would arrange to send him tlieio without delay.]
