THE CERMANIC POWERS. Sir, —The way in which tho Germanic Powers should be treated after the war is a question which many, from Mr. Hughes downwards, wish to 6ce settled in advance, by means of tariff walls and other measures to prevent any futuro trade and commerce or other intercourse with these countries. But this is not tho way to treat tho Satanic Germanic Powers. To merely ban and boycott them is no punishment, no remedy for their evil doings. When Germany, Austria, Turkey and Bulgaria are conquered and their black savagery avertged by sending their monarchs and aristocracies to the scaffold, tho bill of costs against these Empires must .be presented, and it will bo so enormous that nothing short of the total confiscation of all their public and private wealth 'will suffice. These Powers must lie debited with the whole of the thousands of millions of money expended and yet to be expended on: J (1) The cost of mobilising and demobilising the entire armies and navies of tho Allies. (2) The cost of pensioning the dependents .of those slain. (3) The cost of the lifelong support of those maimed. (4) The cost of restoring, as far as possible,' the material damage wrought, in- neutral lands. (5) The immense general damage to life and property throughout the world. Any terms of settlement'which fall short of the above conditions will not meet the ends of justice. In these circumstances, it is absurd to talk of tariff walls and isolation. When tho Entente Powers confiscate the entire possessions of their adversaries, tlio conquered lands and resources must be utilised to make good the cost of the war. Everything in' these Germanic-ruled Empires must be made tho national property of tho Entente, and no inhabitant of these lands ever • allowed the right to own any property whatsoever.' Servants of servants they must remain for all time. In Australia this latter rule is soon to be enacted, and we must not 6top till, this law is enforced throughout the Ger-' manic nations. The vile doings of these evil people by air, sea, and land must be curbed for ever, and the only way to effectively do so is to deprive them for all time of the means to accomplish such dreadful deeds. The man who would lift a voice or pen to mitigate by one jot, the penalty these people must pay should be regarded as a sentimental fool. Tho nationalisation by the Entente Powers of the wealth of Germany is necessary to secure peace and prosperity iu this world.—l am, etc, F. T. MOORE. Johnsonville, . April 3, 1916.
