Negotiations have been proceeding: for a time past for the purchase of the Anchor Shipping Company's -well-known coastal steamer Waverley by the Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Company, of' this City, have now completed the sale of the vessel, which will pass into the hands of her new owners at ( an early date. Of 157 tone gross register, the Wavcrley was built at Auckland in 1883, and was engined'by Messrs. E. W. Mills and. Co., of this City. Her dimensions are:—ll2 feet in length, 17 feet in breadth, and 8 feet in depth. Whilst engaged "in the Patea trade she was somewhat shorter than at present, but on relinquishing that running she was lengthened considerably. Her first owner was tho late Captain W. J. Gibbons, who was master of her ior many yeara. Bho was then Bold to the Anchor Shipping Company, of. Nelson, which has been her 'owner ever since. Her present master is Captain Ruthe, but Captain Fi»k,•well known locally aa master of tho coastal steamer Aorere. will assume command of the vessel. The Weverley is at present at Nelson receiving a most extensive over* haul. It is reported at Seattle (says "Fairplay") that a number of shipping men, including Mr. R. M. Ngakuta is listed to leave to-day for Greymouth to load for Timaru. The Calm is now to arrive here from tho south on Saturday instead of Friday, as was expected. She will leave on Saturday for Wcnganui. - Laden with case-oil from Singapore the British Imperial Oil Company s steamer j Cyrcna- is duo at Auckland about nest 1 Saturday. In the event of her arriving at the northern port on time the Cyrenashould reach Wellington about a fortnight hence. She will probably be followed by the steamer Physa. From Brisbane direct the Calliope arrived at Port Chalmers on Monday. Sho loads wool for London' at that port, and will afterwards come on to Wellington.
