CAUCUS DROPS THE MEASURE

• ; Sydney, April 5. (.. There was' a heated scene in the New South .Wales State Assembly, wliou Mr. Estill (member for Labour) moved the acceptance. of the Legislative Council's amendments to the Trades Union Bill,; providing that money which is the property of the union shall not be applied to the furtherance of political objects by the publication of a newspaper' other than a non-political trade journal. . * Several Labour members objected ; on' • the ground that they had not been consulted. Mr. Holman (the, State Premier) explained that the Labour Caucus meeting, at which there was' a small attendance, had approved-Mr. Estill's action. If members were not present it . was "their own fault. Mr. Holman added that if the Caucus decision were - , not accepted Cabinet would forthwith' - ; resign. Mr. Cochrane declared that he did not oare whether the Government resigned .or not. The adoption of the clause .'meant the abandonment of the principles of Labour. , There were other warm speeches, but the amendment was adopted by 32 ' rotes to 25. BILL DROPPED TO RESTORE PEACE. • (Rec. April 5, 9. p.m.) . Sydney, April 5. A Caucus meeting was held after the trouble in the Assembly over the Trades Union Bill. The" meeting smoothed matters out by deciding to drop the Bill. ,
