Domestic Training institute. Mr. Holnian, Premier of New South Wales, made an announcement recently in connection with tho purchase by the Government of Scarba, a large Bondi residence, for tho purpose of a domestio training institute for young girls from oversea, and the temporary housing of female immigrants (states the "Sydney Morning Herald"). ; "Immigration is largely _ suspended on account of tho war," said Mr. Hoiman, "but a certain amount ill the shape of the introduction of domestic servants still goes 011, and the diminshed activities of tho Immigration Department are concentrated upon this particular phase now. This_ institution, 111 addition to being a training school for domestic workers, .will accommodate immigrant women who are in need of temporary accommodation, either immediately upon arrival or when awaiting re-employment." The obtaining of Scarba is part of a general project to give inexperienced young girls from oversea a few months practical training in housework before placing them in domestic employment here. 111 this way it is anticipated that girls much younger than those usually recruited can be brought out and given a training that will enable them to secure positions in the best houses. Mr. Percy Hunter, in the course of a special report upon the subject, states: "We have in this State, of course, a scheme covering tho introduction and agricultural training of lads, and I am satisfied that the Government will _be 011 perfectly safe grounds in_ extending its policy to include the bringing out of girls from 16 to 21 years _of age pledged to accept domestic service, and affording them,. where _ necessary, at least three months' training in domestic work before placing them Hi approved homes."
