SWIMMING
' SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS. ' Tho annual schools' championships were held -under the auspices of the Wellington Swimming Centre at Te Aro Baths on Saturday afternoon. Tlie championships—boys and girls under 14 years of age—are swum over four distances, viz.: Girls, 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards; and boys, 50, 75, 100, and 150 yards. L. Watson (Terrace School) won all tho four distances in tho girls' events, and D. R, Ballard (Mount i Cook) swam second each time, while R. Thompson was third in three of the distances, HI Lapworth filling third place in the'so yards. The boys' championship'was annexed by W. M'Gill (Mount Cook), who won all the distances, Bert Somers being second, and A, Claridg.e third. Mavis Price, Netta Rice, Dons Dodd, and R. Burns also competed in the girls' events, and Albert Ritchie, Sidney Wonnacott, G. Womlacott, R. O'Kogan, C. Holland. A. Holland, R. Sowman, and C. O'Regan were_ among the starters in the boys' championship. . SOLDIERS' EVENT. The Thorndon Club conducted a further contest for the Atkins' Cup (soldiers' teams races) at the Thorndon Baths on 'Saturday afternoon. Five teams competed, and a very keen race resulted in the A Company 14th Infantry team- defeating the holders fairly easily. The result was as follows :— A Company 14th Infantry. 1: 14th Artillery, 2; 13th Artillery, 3: 12th Artillery (previous holders), 4: Tinißj 2min. 48sec. The winning team was' as follows :—Sergt. E. L. Thwaites, Ptes. G. Lindsay, S. Millar, J. S. Bagnall, E. ■T. Donohue. ' . ,
