CARTERTON NOTES
In the Carterton Police Court oil Friday morning, a man named Ernest Matthews, aliaß John Jones, was sent to prison for a month for assault. It appears that the man had been in camp for a time, but was passed out as medically unfit, and had been about the town for a day or two endeavouring ostensibly to obtain assistance to get to "Wellington. He had been helped by the Patriotic Society, but took to drinking. He went to a temperance boardinghouse one afternoon and made himself at .homo, but was requested by the proprietress to leave, as he waß not a., boarder. Thereupon he turned upon her and chased her to her room. He was subsequently arrested by. the police. The final game this season for the Booth Cup was played at Maeterton on Thursday afternoon between teams representing Carterton and Mastcrton Howling Clubs, and Carterton again won the trophy. In two rinks the games were very olosely contested, and Masterton won, in 0110 case by a point, rind'in the other case by three points; but in the other rink Carterton won by 29 to 12. Although the figures show a' wide difference in this game, the play was much closer than fchoy indicate, and the game was very strongly fought.
