BIG FRE IN CHRISTCHURCH
HEAVY DAMAGE DONE.

Christohuroh, April 1.
This afternoon' a serious fire broke out in a big detached brick warehouse and factory, situated between the D.1.0. premises and Sorensen's auction mart, : in Lichfield ' Street. The building, a three-storey block, was ocoupied on the ground floor by Reynolds and Kinvig, soft goods merchants, M. N. AYoodfield, accountant, and Job Osborne, well-sinker. Messrs. James Murphy and Co., manufacturers and warehousemen, occupied tho first floor, and Mr. R. R. Roberts, clothing manufacturer, occupied the top storey. The top floor,- with all its contents, was complotoly destroyed, and a , big hole was burned through the roof. All' the machinery was totally spoiled. On Messrs. Murphy's promises, on the first floor, there was also stark ruin. A big stock of clothing, including £1000 worth of soldiers' clothes for the Defence Department, which wore ready for issue, was absolutely destroyed. Downstairs the damage- done was cluofly by water. '
