THE LAW OF COMPENSATION

In the Supremo Court yesterday, bofore His Honour Mr. Justice Dcmiiston, legal argument was heard in the- caso of Joseph Kaye v. the Wcstport Harbour Board. The plaintiff was recently injured by a fall of earth while in tho employ of the defendant board, and ho sued tlio board for £1000 damages for the loss of a leg. A jury of twelve awarded him £750, and tlio question was tlioh raised as to whether damages in such a caso wevo not limited by lav (Section 62 of the Workers' Compensation Act) to tho sum of £500. The board moved to reduce tho judgment to £500, or for a now trial. Argument on the motion was board yesterday, Mr. C. H. Treadwell appearing for the board end Mr. P. J. O'Regaii for Kayo. Judgment was reserved.
