INFANTILE PARALYSIS
TWO CITY CASES PRECAUTIONS IN THE SCHOOLS. Yesterday tho Department of Publio Health reported that five new oases of ir.fantile paralysis had been notified in tlio Wollington Health District. Two. of these were City cases. The notifications were issued as fol-. low:— Wellington City ■ 2 Lyall Bay 1 l r oxtort ; 1 Feilding District 1 Onco moro the Secretary of tho Education Board (Mr. G. L. Stewart) detailed to members of the board yesterday afternoon exactly what was being done in connection with the infantile paralysis outbreak. He stated that up to the present time the number of children attending the schools who had been attacked by the disorder was less than ten. One or two''schools were at present being disinfected, and one or two more were on the lis| to be done. It was recently reported to the Karori Borough Council that a case of infantile paralysis, which occurred outside the borough, had been moved into the borough. As no official notification of the transfer had been received by the council, it was resolved to communicate with tho Health Department and voice the borough's objection to such a practice. The letter was written Eome days ago, but at last night's meeting the Town Clerk was not able to place a Teply before councillors. Some surprise was expressed at the apparent indifference with -which the council's communication had been treated by the Health authorities, and the Town Clerk was directed to forward a second letter in the same terms to the Department.
FRESH CASES IN CANTERBURY. By Telegraph— Association. Chrlstohurch, .March 28. Three additional cases of infantile paralysis were reported in South Canterbury,, two being in the same household. A case in Christchurch regarded as "suspect" yesterday is now confirmed as infantile paralysis. ' Altogether there are six cases of infantile paralysis in North Canterbury,' eight in Canterbury, and one in Westland. .ANOTHER CASE IN NAPIER. Napier, March 28. Another case of infantile paralysis, a child of eighteen months, is reported, making twenty-two Hawke's Bay cases. TWO DEATHS IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 28.Two deaths from infantile paralysis were reported to-day, both of children in the country districts. . ' ■ ■ ■ Four additional cases were reported to-day in the rural area. .The total number to date is 425, and the fatal cases 42. .
