While steaming in the Australian Bight on Troopship No. 31, on October 17 last year, five men of the Second' Battalion of the New Zealand lline Brigade signed a note which was enclosed in a bottle and dropped overboard. ,The bottle drifted along until it came ashore on fhe South Australian coast between Cape Banks lighthouse and Pivoli Bay, whore it was found by Mr. H. A. Stewart, who opened it and found the following message;—" Troopship No. 31, 17-10-15. Middle of Australian Bight, R. Hadtion, sergeantmajor; L. N'ott, quartermaster-sergeant; W. Scoullan. sergeant; (i. S. Bishop, sergeant; A. Flyim, sergeant. All 'cobbers' in No. 31 cabin. If found, please send on to Jlrs. Nott, 10 Mathioson Street, Wanganui." Carrying out the request, the finder, on February. 21 of tliis year, forwarded to 'Mrs. Nott the message from the sna, witTi a covering note explaining where it was found, and wishing the comrades every success.
