HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION
SAVINGS TO BE MADE.
Replying to the deputation which ivaited upon liim to urge the provision of a new site and building for technical education in Wellington on Thursday last) the Minister of Education said some interesting tilings about secondary education. In referring to tho possible saving that might have to be effected on the vote, the. Hon. J. A. Hanan said that he had been looking into the position of high school or secondary education in New Zealand generally, and had an idea that a, certain saving might be made in that direction. It seemed to him that there wero too many children taking up high school education who would do better for themselves and the community generally if they entered technica} schools. Too many went in for professions or quasi-professions that were not suited to them, and more were being given the opportunity to do so by tho free place system. "'You can't make a racehorse out of a Clydesdale," said the Minister. "There are too many misfits in life!"
