" WITH THE ALLIES IN FRANCE AND FLANDERS "
WAR LECTURES BY MB, FREDERIC COLEMAN. Mr. JVederic Coleman liaa practical evidence of his having taken part in the great war not as a war correspondent, who would "see" tho fighting from miles in the rear, but in association with the British Headquarters-Staff in France. Mr. Coleman, who will lecture at the Town Hall next Saturday evening, has the following letter from General Srnith-Dorrien.-—"Dear Mr. Coleman,--You aslt me to "givo you a letter which will be certain evidence .that you were with the fighting troops of the British Army from the comuioncemont of this great war. I very gladly : write such a_ letter, for throughout the timo I was with the Ariiiy in France from August 19, 1914, I frequently came across you; and always pretty closo to where the shot and shell were flying ' pretty . merrily. The first time we met was in the square at St. Queiitin, during the great retirement, tho morning after the Battle of Le Cateau, August 27, when Lord Loch introduced me to/you,.'and you;kindly gave me a lift in your car." This is one of a number of similar letters held by Mr. Coleman. Specially interesting pictures of tho war will be shown by Mr. Coleman; many of these wore taken by the lecturer in the thick of the fighting, and at great personal risk. Once his camera was hit by a shell splinte? and smashed to pieces. The box plans will be opftneu at thfl 'Bristol on; Thursday morning.
