DEFENCE MINISTER AT FEILDING
N 'the final appeal. By Telegraph—Press Association. : Fellding, March 26. The Defence Minister paid an official recruiting visit io.Feilding night. Mr. Allen gavo a stirring openair address to a crowd of three or four thousand people, and was given a splendid hearing ana hearty cheers. • Mr. Allen said this was, the final appeal under the voluntary, system. They wanted men up to the 20th Reinforcements, and . hoped that voluntary effort wouldl render, compulsion-unnecessary. If compulsion came in, eligible men who had married within the past six months would be first drawn upon, with single men without dependents. The Minister urged all people to help in the work of having placed;on the register men who had evaded registering, so that if compulsion came■■ these menwould not escape.A vote of thanks was carried amidst, isolleys of cheers. Mr. Allen's visit was made the occasion for a big demonstration, the National Reserve, Territorials, Senior Cadets, the Fire Brigade, and two bands taking part in the procession.
