The- "New Zealand Tra<}e Review," in its latest .issue referring to the money market, says:—There is very little to report on the local money market at present, as there is not much reliable data to supply definite information, pending the public cation of the bank returns for' the current quarter, which will be available in about a fortnight's-time, There is, however, no doubt that money is still very plentiful, and there appears every probability of this condition prevailing for some time to come. 1 Our exports for the two months, January and February, totalled £8,582,909, white our imparts for that period were £3,667,327, leaving a handsome surplus of £4,915,662 i These' figures spell a big inllow.of funds into the Dominion, and it appears highly probable that wlien the banking figures for the quarter aro out -we shall find a record surplus of deposits over advances. Our principal products continue to command exceptionally high prices, and the season has been favourable to production. Fresh land is continually being opened, up and made productive, and consequently the volume of our production'should continue on , the increase. Practically the only trouble with New Zealand at present is the difficulty in procuring sufficient freight space, both for imports and exports.ln spite of the plentiful supply of. money,' rates continue faitly firm, owing largely to increased taxation, and a feeling that there may'be further increases, also the worldwide -value of money lias advanced owing to war demands for capital.
