JOHN BAILLIE'S PHOTOPICTURES

The work of Mr. John Baillie's camera is inadequately classified under the cold term, photography. He does not seek to merely produce an image, hut with the artist's eye seeks out an harmonious grouping in nature or among the works of man; studies his light, weighs up the balance of half-tone and shade, in skyline and foreground, and tho result is— : a picture. Mr. Baillie is the-samo gentleman who brought out a splendid collection of paintings by Biitish artists to Wellington some five years ago, and later introduced another collection to New Zealand through tho medium of the Auckland Exhibition. He has now turned his attention to picture photography, and in order to appreciate the beauty of. his work those interested should visit M'Grewr Wright's studio. They will appreciate his artistry as a poseur, his delicate perception of the value of half-tone, and ilis ready judgment in bringing out what is best in a sitter. Lovers of the Hutfc Valley will find much to interest them in tho studies Mr. Baillie. has made there during tho wonderful "photographer's summer" wo have experi. encod in Wellington.
