Greenwood and Mr. T. H. Lowry have nominated their horses for -Auckland and H-iccarton, and the probabilities are that they will bo represented at each place at Easier time. Things look promising for tho classic races at the Mnnaivatu Sleeting, as many of the lending trainers have already engaged boxes at Awapuui. Among them may bo mentioned R. J. Mason, who has engaged threo boxes for Mr. Greenwood's candidates;' J. F. JelTard, of Hastings, has taken four for the Messrs. Williams; and R. O'-Donnell has taken five for Mr. Stead. , . Kirrikau (Downshjre—Silkgown), who accompanied Margarita to Sydney, won tho Maiden Handicap, four furlongs, at Ascot on March 15. The winner was favourite, and won by three lengths. Sincere; sympathy will be felt for tho well-known sportsman, Mr. Jns. Bull, who has been advised by the Minister of_ .Defence that as a result of a. Court of Inquiry it''hag been established that his eon Melville was killed in action at Ciallipoli on August 8. The deceased, who was a first-class amateur horseman, enlisted with the Main Body and was reported wounded in August. For a long time hisparents oould get no definite news of him, and for months past the worst has been feared. Another soil, Lindsay, also wont, with the Main Body, and issstil t 'in Egypt. : Tho Comedy King—Watershoot colt, half-brother to Urmengarde, was not 'himself on the date the Shipley yearlings were sold, so ho was withdrawn, and will ■be put up at. It is rarely that a horse wins a hurdle race first time out. ' . ■
Locally the ohances of the New' Ply-mouth-trained Depredation are much fancied for the Scott Memorial Handicap, to be inn on the opening day of tho liangitikei meeting. At New Plymouth on Boxing Day the Oainpliro colt scored, and at Martou the following week he was runner-lip to Panmure. He occupied a similar position behind Avon Park'at the Taranaki Cup meeting, thoso behind him including Flying Start and Crown Pearl. Avon Park subsequently enhanced this form by winning the concluding, event u.t Wauganui. Carlysian, runner-np to Marimba in the Dash Hack Handicap at the Masterton meeting, is an aoceptor in tho Ngatiapa Hack Handicap at Bulls to-marrow.
The Foxton sportsman, Mr. S. Enston, .who woe the Eangitikei Cup on two previous occasions with Moutoa Girl and Lady Moutoa, has a couple of representatives in. Wednesday's contest, viz., Princess Moutoa, 7st.. Bib., and Master Moutw, fet, 13lb. If he rana up to his showing in the Wellington Cup, in which he mas in behind, the leaders to the turn, the last named, who scored in the Eangitikei Cup, may bp particularly dangerous. Mr. E: J. Wait is very unfortunate with his two-year-olds this season, several of whom appear to be good enong-h to just get beaten. Following upon . the ..failure' of Biirradoo-last month coines word that Silt Tress acted as runner-115 in. the Juvenile Handicap at Kosehill, in which sno started favourite. .
j ■ jlr;,W. J. Ralph, owner of El GaUo'and •Penniless, is at present in 'Wellington on business, but he hopes to l be present at Bulls to-morrow to see his horses run.
