A feature of recent recruiting is the faot that an increased percentage of the men' enlisting are signing on for Infantry. ' Tho City Group Office states that men are not being accepted now for Army Servics Corps, Artillery, or Engineers, except men who are in the engineering trade. Latest Enlistments. AUCKLAND'S FINE RECORD.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 20. Seventy-two young men enlisted at the city recruiting station to-day. Of these thirty-seven were accepted, twenty-three deferred, and twelve rejected. The total registrations since the opening of the new station on March 4 is now 1034.
In addition to the extra men already sent from Auckland for the 14th Reinforcements, the Defence Department to-day asked for 120 more to go 60uth on Monday to fill southern gaps. It is evident that'unless more eligible men enlist in the south, Auckland will : have to provide a large proportion of future drafts.. POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH. By Tolejrraph.—Press Association. Chrlstchurch, March 20. A meeting of representative citizens presided over by the Mayor was held this afternoon to consider the matter of recruiting under the Government's new e-chemo. It was decided that the City Counoil should be relieved of re. sponsibility, and that the whole matter should be. undertaken by the Citizens' Defence Corps.
