LONDON WOOL SALES. (Rec. March 19, 5.5 p.m.)
London, March 18. The wool sales have closed firm at the top.prices. There was wider competition this week, and prices. hardened considerably. Compared with the January • Bales finest' crossbreds close at about par, medium and coarse crossbred, 10 per cent, lower; best merino, 5 per cent, lower on the averago; and faulty, fully 74 per cent, lower. All sorts of scoured found a good market, owing to Russian demand at par to 5 per cent, decline. The fallowing wero the prices realised for the fleece portionß of tho clip 6 named:—Topralo, • top pries 37d., average price 36Jd.: "Kilongbux," top 22Jd., average 22d.; "lieid," top 22d., aver, age 183 - "Portland," top 20d., averago 184 d.; "Tinenburia," top 15Jd„ averago 14jd.; "Orion Downs," top 21Jd„ average 18d. There was sold to the Home trado 77.000 bales, to the ,Continent £000, and to America nil. Tho quantity held over is 11,000 bales.
Messrs. Abraham and Williams, I/td. ho-va. received the following cablegram from their agents :—"The sales have closed with' a etrong market. Ab compared with the closing rates of last sales, merinos are 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, lower; flno crossbreds, 5 per cent, lower; medium and coarse orosßbreds, 10 per cent, lower."
The New Zealand Loan, and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their Lon. don house, under date March 17:—"Sales closed firmly, as compared with February 5. The following are, all lower:—Merino superior, par to 5 per cent.; greasy medium inferior, 75 per cent, to 10 per cent.; scoured, 6 per cent, to 7i per cent.; crossbred greasy, fine, par to 5. per ceul.i medium, coanse, 10 per cent."; Messrß. Murray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd., have received a cablegram from their London, friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, 'and Co., under date -March 17, as followp-.—
"Sales have closed firm, 11,000 bales held over.
