The District Health Officer (Dr. Sydney Smith) holds that in cases where schools have been thoroughly cleansed and disinfeoted, it is much safer for the children to be allowed to attend them, than for the schools to be shut up and the children allowed to play about the streets. Owing to the small number of. cases in Wellington, and the fact that in the majority of cases they are children under school age, there is no talk of closing any of tho Stat* schools in Wellington. •
The cases reported on Saturday wero as under:—Wellington. 1; Blenheim, 1; Upper Hutt. 1; Te Kiri, 1; Greatford, 1: Hastings, 2; Hawera, 1.
HAWERA SCHOOLS TO BE CLOSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hawera, March 18. Owing to infantile paralysis, the schools will be closed and other drastio action taken. One fresh ease is reported to-day. To date thore have been fifteen cases in Hawera County, five in the borough and ton in the adjoining districts. A CASE AT WAIHI. By Telegraph-Press Association.
