KARORI AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.

At last night's meeting of the Karori Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. 13. G. 11. Burn) presided, and there wore also present: Councillors AY. C. Cooper, L. p, Davios, R. I'airo, A. Hamilton, J. i W. Henderson, J. U. Raiue, and W. Skegg. ' | A letter was received from the Mayor of Wellington in reference to the movement to oelebrato Anzac Day. The Mayor of lyarori reported tliat he liad attended a mooting on Monday at tlie T'dwn Hall, when it was decided to approach the Prime Minister to have a public holiday declateu. Personally, His Worsrip thought that such a holiday should ba deolared. Captain J. W. Hcndorson, Camp Quartermaster, wrote stating that tho officers and men of the Fifth Regiment were woll ploased with Karori Park wliicli had been used for the recent camp. The Commandant had instructed him to thank the council for tho uso of the park.—The letter was received. A circular from tho War Necessities Committee soliciting sapport for Early Closing Movement, and the establishment of wet' canteens, at military camps, was before tho council. —Oil the motion of Councillor Skcgg, it was cided that tho letter bo received, and that no action be taken. Mr. T. F. Martin wrote notifying the council that the annual conference of delegates to the Municipal Association of Now Zealand would not be held this year on account of tho war, and various matters requiring urgent attention. The Executive Committee of tho association will in the meantime deal with any remits of an important nature. . „

A deputation from the Karori Lawn Tennis Club waited upon the' council to urge tliat the club should be granted a romission of rates on its property in the borough. The Mayor promised that the matter would receive sympathetic consideration, and it was decided (on tllo motion of Councillor Henderson) that the council shpuld deal with the question in coriimittee.
