PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the Petone Technical School Board was held last evening, there being present; Mr. J Castle (chairman), and- Messrs. Bur-' ridge Wakeham, Hobbs, Forsyth, and OiuiliJfe.

\The director (Mr. J. . Lynsky) re--ported that the lvuoYber of pupils attending the various classes wag as follows:—English, ' 4-5; arithmetic, 45drawing, 18; building construction. 11 • wool-classing 11; ■ matriculation, 19 • electricity, 9; shorthand, 62; art, 4' plumbing, 4; book-keeping, 35; . carpentry, 12; cookery, 17; mathematics, 26; chemistry, 11. The classes, gener-' ally speaking, are an improvement on last year's (the report adds), and although the Saturday half-holiday had to some extent interfered with Friday evening's classes, this was made up by the general increase.; In the South Kensington examination of November last,. Norman Brian obtained a- firstclass pass m carpentry (Grade 2), and a first-class pass in cabinet-malcing (ordinary grade). In. the Senior Public Service Examination, held in January, the following were successful Thomas Edmeados (completed his subjects). Dollaid Naugliton (five subjects'), Minnie Webster (three), Kenneth Bargli (three). H. Wylie (three), H. M. Stephens (three), L. Price (two). A class in elementary mathematics, suitable for apprentices at. engineering works, had been started, Mr. Stephens conducting it with his usual Thursday classes. At Lower Hutt the roll was as follows:— English and arithmetic, 27; shorthand. 25: dressmaking, 20; book-keep-ing 12,; Civil Service, . 11. At 'Upper Hutt:—English . and arithmetic, 7; shorthand and typing, 9; hook-keening, 7. A,handsome prize, awarded by a gentleman not wishing his name to be made public, was Won by. W. J. Inglis •in the junior electricity class. The report was adopted.

In regard to the matter,of the transferring of a section of land in Beach Street to the board,, the chairman was empowered to make the final arrangements. • ! ' ■
