HIBERNIAN SOCIETY

ANNUAL COMMUNION BREAKFAST.

[ St. Mary's of the Angels Church, Boulcott Street, was well filled yesterday morning at the 8 o'clock Mass, the occasion being the annual general communion of the members of the Hibernian Society, some 200 members of which were present, in addition .to the ordinary congregation. The Very Rev. Dean Smythe, S.M., Provincial of the Marist Order, celebrated Jlass, assisted by the chaplain of the Hibernian Society, the Very Rev. Father O'Connell, S.M. Dean Smythe addressed the congregation and spoke on the great feast which the Church celebrated on Friday next—St. Patrick's Day. After the Mass the members marched to Messrs. Gamble and Creed's rooms, Lambton Quay, where the annual breakfast was held. Bro. F. Whitaker, 8.P., presided, and among those present were: The- Very Rev. Father O'Connell, S.M., and the Rev. Brothers Egbert, Emilian, and Luke, Bro. M. .' Bohan, the founder of St. Patrick's Branch (established in -1874), and Bro. T. P. Redmond, P.P., who joined in 1875. The following toast 3 were' honoured: "Tlie Pope" and "The King" (Bro. Whitaker), "Tlie Day Wo Celebrate" (Bros. H. M'Keowen and Jf P. M'Gowan), "Catholic Education" (Bro. J. J. L. Burke and the Rev. Bro. Egbert), "Catholic Federation" ' (Bro. MT Walsh aiid Mr. W. F. Johnson), "Tlie Clergy" 1 (Bro. J. E. Fitzgerald and the Very Rev. Father O'Connell, S.M.),' "Kindred Societies" (Bro. Jeremiah O'Brien, responded to by Bro. L. T. Reichel, St. Vincent de Paul: Bro;'K W. Godsell. Marist'Old Boys' Association; M. O'Kane, Wellington Catholic Club; and Mr. B. A. Guise, St. Anne's Catholic Club), "Past Officers"; (Bro. Ji' E. Gamble nnd Bro. T. P. Redmond), "Tlie Ladies" (Bros. J. L. Turner ant l J- M'Phee). In the evening, at the same church, the ■ Very Rev. Father O'Connell delivered a panegyric on the life of St. Patrick. ' There was a crowded congregation, the members of the Hibernian Society being present in regalia in large numbers.
