SOUTHERN MARKETS. ' By Telegraph-Press Association. ChWstchurch, March 16. The vrilieat market was shade firmer during the week, but has now eased baclt Asain. • Milling wheat brought up to 4s. 4d., but most business since douo has been at 4s. 3d. at country stations. For a line of prime pearl barley probably 4s. 6d. would be obtained, this variety being scarce. Though not as much in demand as usual for mixing purposes as/Hunters •and Tuscan wieat, it is generally hard find dry this season'. There liave been some rejections on account of wheat threshed in the stook having sweated in the bags. This trouble is said to be more frequently experienced in the Ashburton and-South Canterbury. districts than in North Canterbury, and has arisen chiefly through threshing from the stook in show, oil* weather. A fairly largo quantity of wheat is offering. Latest threshing returns. reported by the Prime Minister show that 1 tlio.y'iield of wheat in the Canterbury area i thTCshed is not equal to tho /preliminary ostium tea of. tho Government Statistician, tviiose ilgures wero based on tho area : sown, and did riot allow for tho large area fed off. .
