— 9 - PRISONER ESCAPES FROM ROAD GANG, By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 10. ■ A break for liberty was made this afternoon by a young prisoner named Geo. -Dawson Barrett, aged 22, who is undergoing a sentence of twelve months' reformatory treatment at Mt. Eden gaol for tlie theft of a Bicycle. _ Barrett was working with the prisoners on the Mountain Road. The gang, which was in chargo of two wamers, was engaged in building a wall, and taking advantage of a moni-enl when tlie warders' hacks were turned, made a Ereaic up the road towards Epsom. Ho liad not gone many hundred yards before he attracted tho attention of some boys, who gave the alarm to the warders about threo minutes STer his departure. A cnaso was immediately started, with tlie assistance of tho police, but fho man has not been recaptured.
