ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Irt connection . with the celebrations of St. Patrick's Day (March 17) in Wellington, a strong and powerful com- , mittee is at,work. As is usual,, a procession will. open the _ proceedings, marching through the main streets to Newtown Park, where a big programme ■of athletic and other events will be run off during the day. The.afternoon's programme will comprise all the "big" events, including tugs-of-war, Irish jigs, Highland dancing, baby' show,' besides a plentiful; supply of' side-shows: The Camp. Commandant has expressed his intention to allow jw-ssny soldiers at Trentham who ivifl be granted leave to, attend. It is i}iso expected several strong tug-of-waJr teams will figure as entrants in the competition. A national concert in the evening^at the 'Town Hall 'will be held. Mr. Farquhar Young and Miss Mildred Wrighton, from Christchurch, have been specially engaged. Also appearing on the programme are: Misses Teresa. M'Enroe, Kearns (Palmerston ' North), Nellie Strickland, Eileen Driscoll, Mary M'Keowen, and Messrs. Kevin, Dillon, ■ and 'La-slett Exton. The combined choirs of Hawkestone and King Street Schools will render suitable items, and the .Marist Old Boys' will, provide the' music:- 'Mr. Sidford is tho official accompanist.
