THE MAORI CONTINGENTS
When Natives representing a majority of the North Island tribes gathered last Week at the funeral of the late Teurua ICaihau Taipua, son of the lato Hoani Taipua, a former member for the Western Maori electorate, they considered the question of recruiting for tho Maori Contingent, and passed the following resolution: —"That this representative gathering of Natives of the following tribes-4-Ngatiraukawa, Whanganui, Ngatitmvharetoa, Ngatikahunguini, Ngaiterangi, Te Arawa, Ngatitoa, Ngatimaniapoto, Atiawa, and Muaupokoi—strongly resents the splitting up of tho Maori Contingent now at the front, respectfully draws the Government's attention to the fact, and requests that tho Maori Contingent and Reinforcements ho again reconstitutedas a separate unit as heretofore."
