TAX ON GERMAN CATS
The municipality ; ;'of Liegnitz, the' capital of Lower Silesia, has decided to impose a tax of ten marks per annum on each cat, and it is estimated that an additional revenue of 20,000 marks will thug be raised. The "Frankfuerter Nachricliten," discussing the -whole question of future taxes in Germany, says the amounts now to he raised by taxation can only be described as colossal, the total of the annual taxes . having . reached a fiaure as large as'tho total revenues of all Germans possessing . over 20,000 marks annual income. The "Nachricliten" concludes that it is obviously out of the question now to obtain the necessary taxation from the. pockets of'the wealthy people alone, as the fortunes of nil the rich of tho country taken in their entirety would be insufficient to make up the required amount. It follows consequently that all classes of the people alike will have to bear their share of the burden.
