I The few strangers who came from I afar to witness, .011 a recent occasion, ,the anniversary service for Napoleon J 111 at St. Micheal's Abbey Church, Farnborough, were spectators of scenes tinged- with picturesque pathos. They saw the Empress Eugenie laieeling at the Emperor's red granite tomb (Queen Victoria's gift), covered by-a black velvet pall, in. the crypt, while Low Ma6S was celebrated by thoßev.'Pere Bauzin and the absolution given by 'Pere Eudine. • On either side of tlhe Empress wore Prince and Princess Napoleon, and with them Comte Mora, M. and Mme. d'Attainville, a .few others,of the Imperial household, arid three of . the wounded officers who are being tended by the Empress.. The picture of the crypt when the absolution was given was a' strikingly impressive one.. with, for frame, the"Benedictine monks in their habits. The breaking of the deathlike silenco came as a Telief. The Empress smiled upon and bowed to all before slowly ascending the steps of the crypt and re-enter-lng her motor-car.
