The question of cyclists other than thoso with motor machines using the footpath along the Hutt Road.was discussed the other evening by the Onslow Borough Council. Councillor Dale moved that the Mayor, as representing the on the Hutt Road Board, should be' instructed to do all in bis power to defeat the proposal that oyclists should be prohibited from using the cycle track between Wellington and Petone, and ('/) that a letter be written to the Wellington City Council protesting against the • suggestion, and also that letters be written to other local bodies concerned inviting their co. operation in opposing tho proposal. The motion found general favour, it being the opinion - that, to deprivo the cyclists of the use of tlio track would he a breach of faith. The Mayor, Councillors Gardner and Bowden favoured tho prohibition in the interests of pedestrians. After somo discussion the motion was altered favouring opposition' to ■ tho • present proposal, and .suggesting a division of the footpath. This was carried.
