LOCAL EXECUTIVE MEETS
: £1000 FOR WOUNDED AT HOME The Executive Committee of the Yt'ai Keliet Association of Wellington met yesterday afternoon, Mr. .Win. Fcrguson presiding. The Hostels Committee reported it had mterviowed Mr. E. C Lcvvey in connection with the Langham Hostel. j.ur. Jjevvey stated that his association intended to restrict its operations to one ono liostel, and that tho money was requiroa to secure tho furniture. The (; ° n ™ittee recommended a contribution l . without conditions, as soon as the incorporation of the association was obtained. _a.iie meeting, after a short discussion, adopted the suggestion 0 f tho Hostels Committee' to advance £300 without conditions. Tho Finance Committee reported that i,ho funds ol' the association, as at February 21), 1916, were:— Fixed deposits 68/100 °0 \ Current accounts <1,530 5 11 L'etty cash in hand g g n 72,838 14 10 The report with rcferenco to the Fedoration of_War Relief Societies v was read, and tne meeting unanimously decided that they should join the Federation. .As delegates to the preliminary oonforenco of that body, the chairman and Mr. L. O. H. Tripp were appointed.' A contribution to tho War Contingent Fund was considered, and Mr. L. O. H. Tripp'pointed out that from reports he had received there were about 4000 of_our men scattered over the hospitals In England. These men wero often vory short of money for stamps '"M other little necessities. They were assisted by tho War Contingent Association to some extent, and that association had received assistance from various patriotic associations. <ts ho knew, Wellington, had done 'nothing. He moved: "ihat tho sum of £1000 be sent to the High Commissioner, to be paid to tho_ !Se\v Zealand War Contingent Association for the benefit of the Now Zealand sick and wounded." Tho motion was seconded by Mr. L. ■M. A. Rcarden, and passed unanimousfy. _ L'ho Y.M.C.'A. applied for financial as. sistanco in order'to further their war work, and Mr. J. Lewis proposed Chat 1 k O , granted -unconditionally. ■"i'r. G. Shirtcliffo moved, as an amendment, and Mr. ]). M'Laren seconded, that this application be rdTorred to a small sub-committee, who niight interview tho Y.M.C.A., with a view to obtaining fuller information. •Iho amendment was carried, and thu chairman, Messrs. L. O. H. Tripp, D. M'Laren, and J. Lewis wore appointed to tho sub-committee. An application was received for financial assistance from Mrs. E. H. Suisted Wangan'ui, on behalf of the Wanganu! Military Hospital Guild. It was decided. that a letter be sent to Mrs. Suisted, pointing out 1 that Wanganui had collected large sums of monoy for specific purposes, and asking if thesu funds did not come within the scopu of her work. The chairman'and Mr. A. Macintosh were appointed as delegates of the anso. cjation to a meeting of Patriotic Societies convened by the Mayor in the Mayor's rooms. The resignation of Mr. H. G. Hill was received, and accopted with regret. Tho secretary was granted the assistance of mi extra clerk-typist.
