AWARDS FOR TWO WEEKS
Hie War Pensions Board lias now to deal every week with increasing numbers of claims for pensions. This week a record number of cases. 118, was dealt with, and during the last three woeks 216 claims have been received. The total annual liability in respect of war pensions has now risen to £30,785, and the number of pensioners is 698. The total number of claims received to date is 1158. The results of the Board's investigation of tbem are that G9S pensions and 241 allowances have been granted, ,92 applications liave been declined, 25 adjourned, and 102 aro in baud. The number of allowances granted may appear large, but it should be understood that allowances are granted not only' to men temporarily incapacitated, but also to men tho degree of whoso incapacity can not be at once determined. The method tho Board adopts in dealing with these iatter cases is to grant an allowance for a- stated periat tho. end ol ! which tho case is considered again. It is certain that of tho 2-11 persons to whom allowances are now being paid, many will yet receivo pensions. During last week the Board consid-. sred •75 claims—4o from soldiers - and 3.) from dependents. To soldiers 11 pensions and 22 allowances were grantid. Three applications were declined, ind four adjourned. Thirty pensions md two allowances wore granted \to lependents, two applications being dedined and one adjourned./ _ This week, of the 118 claims before ;lie Board, 90 were from soldiers and !8 from dependents. Thirty soldiers vere granted pensions, and foVty-nine illowa.nces. Six applications were declined and five adjourned. Twentyive dependents lvero granted pensions, hvo applications were declined, and one idjourned. / Particulars of the pensions and alowances granted to soldiers this week vere as follow:— Pensions: 3 at £91 a year (the full imount), 1 at' £78, 4 at £65, i 4 at £52. 1 at £39, and 7 at £26. Allowances: 19 received £1 a week : or 3 months; 14, £1 a week for 6 nonths; 3, £1 15s. a week'for isix nonths; 2, £1. 10s. a week for 6 Months; 1, £1 1.55. a week for three nonths; 2. £1 10s. a' week for three nonths; 6, 10s: a week for tlivee nonths; One applicant was allowed a apital sum of £50.in lieu of a weekly llowauce, as ho represented that he 'ished to have tho casn to embark in a small business. -
