The death occurred on January 5 last at King Manoel's Home for officers, Brighton (England), of Bear-Admiral John Arthur Tiike, brother of Archdeacon Tuke, of Napier _ The late EearAdmiral Tiike was born in 1857, and entered the Navy as n cadet in 1870, attaining the rank of captain in 1901, Slid (lag rank in 1911. He retired from, the service in October, 1913, but was last year appointed temporary captain, R.N.R.. He first saw active service as sub-lieutenant of the Pioneer in the Niger Expedition, 1879. He accompanied the expedition to the Emir of Nussi, and also landed during the operations nt the bombardment and destruction of the town of Nutcha, being mentioned l in dispatches. As lieutenant of the Northumberland lie served during the Egyptian War of 1882, and was awarded tho Egyptian medal, and l the Khedive's bronze star. In 1902 Captain Tuke was Master of the Fleet for tho Naval review at the Coronation of tho late King Edward. While captain of the Jlonmouth in 1907 lie received the Order of the Rising Sun (third class) from the Emperor of Japan. He vas then given command of tho battleship Victorious in the Home Fleet. From 1908 to 1911 he was captain of the Dockyard and DeputySuperintendent and King's Harbour Master of the Hamvasie, Devonport, and in January, 1911, was appointed a member of the Admiralty Committee on berthing accommodation of Ifis Majesty's ships at Home ports. For some months past the late Pear-Admiral Tuke bad been submarine hunting in tho Irish Sea in H.M. yacht Valiant 11. Here lie succeeded in sinking more than one submarine, but tho, overstrain brought on tho illness which ended fatally. King Manoel attended the funeral. His eldest son, Captain Cyril Tulto. of Ibo ma-chine-fun section of the Black Watch, was killed at Loos a few weeks a?o. Another son of Admiral Tuke is a lieutenant now serving in France. There are over 20 of the Tuke f.nnilv serving in the war. Archdeacon Tuke lost his second con last, year in the desperate fighting at GalliDoli.
