ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOP OF CHRISTCHURCH
CONSECRATION CEREMONY. By Telegraphs-Press Association. Christchurch, February 27. Tho Rev. ])r. M. J. Brodio was consecrated Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch at x the Cathedral this morning.' The ceremony • was lon<; and impressive, and was attended by a crowded congregation, a notable gathering of visitors being present. The Consecration Prelate was His Excellency the Most Ret. Bonaventufe Cerretti, Titular Archbishop of Corinth, and Dolegate Apostolio to Australasia, and the assisting prelates were: Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, Bishop Verdon. of Dunedin, and other prominent ecclesiastics were present. The sermon was preached by Dean Power, of Hawera, on "The Papacy." Dean Power, referring to tho great war, said that men now looked to the Pope, who sat in the Chair of St. Peter, to point out to the bolligerents tlio way to a speedy, just, and abiding peace. This afternoon Archbishop' Cerretti opened the new I.ewisham Hospital in Bealey Avenue. ' ,
