Tho standard of values for better-class wools set by the recent sales in tho suutli was well maintained at to-day's sale. Values were almost equal to those of the first sale in November, with a decline of about id. for some sorts. The demand for waste : aingy wool was a shade easier, and compared with November prices, which ivei'e exceptionally high, values were probably lid. lower. Pieces sold well at November rates, secondary ana seedy 4 lot's were neglected, and many lots were passed without any bid. The catalogue comprised 13,405 bules, a record for this centre. The buyers' bench was occupied by about 30 representatives of Bradford ana New /Zealand interests only, the only other buyer | being a representative of a French firm. Though competition for selected lots was keen, the safe generally lacked animation. Many of the growers had evidently expected a. rise in prices for second-class wool, and fixed their reserves on the basis of values at the November sale. As a result many lotfi were passed. Tho market was very strong for light-conditioned Hoinney wools, while Lincoins and coarse crossbred were also in good demand, Best quality, well-grown, clean lambs' wool sold at sSntliern value, but secondary and soedy Qualities were neglected, and a. number of the lots .wore passed without any bid. The highest price paid lor greasy wool during tho sale was 18-2(1. for four bales of fine crossbred. The following was the range of prices:— Nov. 1915. Feb. 1916 d. d. d. d.
