EXCHANGE OF FLAGS
An interesting function will take place at Petone on Saturday, March 4, at 3.30 p.m., when an ( exchange of flags between the railway depot at ■ Hornsby (N.S.W.) and the Petone Railway WorkBhops. The Patriotio Society, in connection with the latter, hns all arrangements well in hand, and the Now Zealand ensign, which was purchased by tho employees of the railway workshops, is to be forwarded to the sister State to-morrow. The New South Wales llag is now on tho water, and its arrival is expected shortly. A pole 60ft. in height is to be erected adjacent to the Petone railway station. His Excellency tho Governor will be present at the celebration. Tho member for tho district (Mr. T. M. Wilford), the Mayor and members of the Petone Council, and upwards of 1200 school children are also to be invited, the last-mentioned to he acoommodate'd on a specially-erected gallery. Detachments of the No. o Company, Garrison Artillery, Senior Cadets, and members of the railway section of the National Reserve, as well as the Petone and Hutt units "f the latter, will also be present. Bands wiU render appropriate selections throughout the afternoon, musical selections will be given by the children, nnd addresses delivered bj- various, speakers. A similar function is to take place at Hornsbv (N.S.W.) at the same time, after which greetings will be exchanged.
