The Hon. J. Allen, Minister of Dafence, went to Christcnurch on Saturday evening, en route to Hr.nmer, where he proposes to visit the Soldiers' Convalescent Camp.
Mr. Richard Teeoe, general manager of the A.M.I'. Society, arrived in Wellington from the north on Saturday, and returns to Sydney by the Manuka on Thursday.
Tlie Papal Delegate, Archbishop Cerretti, arrived in Auckland on Saturday from Rotorua, heim; welcomed: at tho station by largo crowds. The visitor was escorted to the Bishop's I'ahrce;. Mr. D. E. Gibbard, of the 6taff of the Cromwell Magistrate's Court, has, been transferred to Napier (states our special correspondent).
Mr. TJ. 0. Fair'hurst, of Dannevirke, who has signed oil the liner Tcimii for the run Home, recently patented a new device for use on aircraft, and is going to England in order to lay it before the War Office. He intends to join the Aviation Corps.
Dr. Ernest Robertson, of Auckland, lias offered bis services to the military authorities, and lias received instructions to proceed to the Featherston Camp to join tlie New Zealand Medical Corps with tlie rank of captain. He was to leave Auckland by last evening's express train. During the past year Dr. Robertson has acted as officer commanding the ambulance section of the National Reserve.
Captain H. yW. King, of the staff of the Auckland Grammar School, has accepted a commission in the 16th Reinforcements, the officers for which will go into camp at Trentham at the beginning of March.
Mr. A. R. Sclanders, of Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd.'s Masterton branch, has been promoted to a position in the firm's Wellington branch, and will leave Masterton to take up his new duties about the middle of the Dresent week.
Mr. H. G. Miller, of Mastorton, wlio recently passed liis matriculation and general solicitor's examination, lias received an appointment on the staff of tlie Roseneath (Wellington) School, and ■will take up his duties to-day.
Jlr. D. 11. Kennedy, for five years president of the Furniture Trades Union, lias been appointed secretary of the union, vice Mr. JD. Moriarty, who is about to take over the lease of- an Auckland hotel.
Mr. Wm. H. Turnbull, of Wellington, leaves for England by the Tainui tomorrow for tho purpose of offering his services to the Imperial authorities.
Captain J. L. Haselden, Reserve of Officers, who has been acting as typist and correspondence clerk to the Chief of the General Staff, Defence Headquarters, during the past three years, was presented with a prismatic compass by the clerical staff on Friday afternoon, tlie occasion being his going into camp to join tlie 16th Reinforcements Mounted Rifles with the rank of captain. .The presentation was made by Mr. W. E. Butler, chief clerk. Captain Haselden served with the 4th and Bth New
Zealand Contingents in the South African War. being awarded the Queen's Medal with five clasps.
