GUIDING THE TRADE AND COMMERCE
Early in the history of Raetihi a need wa-s felt for some association that would have for its object the forwarding, of ever.V interest of the town and district, and generally making for progress. The Raetihi Progressive Asso-
ciation was formed, and under -its successive presidents (among whom liiay be-mentioned Messrs. Bennett, Punch, Davis, and Harris), the association did "xcellcnt work, all forward movements being headed by.it. Finally, this association was judged to have outgrown its usefulness, and a year ago it was dissolved, and in its place the Raetihi Chamber of Commerce sprang up. This body is very much alive, and'is wisely guiding' and directing the commercial interests of tho place. The present president is 51 r. T. A. Harris, and tho secretary Mr. H. Hall. The mutual interests of the tradesmen of the town are looked after by the local Tradesmen's Association, which assures that united action is token on all Questions demanding it.
